I present this impressive sculpture of Our Lady, a devotional piece of French origin dating from the 19th century, standing 88 cm tall. Carved in polychromed and gilded wood, it shows remarkable sculptural quality and refined attention to anatomical details and drapery, typical of the French religious academic style of the period.

The figure depicts the Virgin Mary in a gesture of blessing, with open arms and a serene, sweet expression. The richly gilded mantle displays fine gold leaf applied over gesso, still showing traces of craquelure that are characteristic of the passage of time—marks that lend authenticity and charm to the piece.

It rests upon a blue globe adorned with golden stars and the symbolic serpent beneath her feet—a traditional iconography associated with the Immaculate Conception, reinforcing the sculpture’s symbolic and theological depth.

This is a solid, imposing piece, ideal for discerning collectors of sacred art, religious institutions, or classical interiors that value original 19th-century works with historical, aesthetic, and spiritual significance.

Available for viewing at Batalha Collection. A sculpture of great nobility, ready to find a new space for contemplation and devotion.
