Biography & Artistic Influence:
Born in Porto in 1889, Armando Pereira Bastos de Loureiro was a painter, sculptor, and caricaturist, leaving a lasting impression on Portuguese art.
During his Parisian years, he collaborated with press publications, such as O Riso and LΓΊcifer, and founded several newspapers, including O MonΓ³culo and A Folia.
In 1918, at his painting exhibition at the Galeria da MisericΓ³rdia in Porto, he described his work as having a Peninsular, almost Spanish character, while remaining deeply Portuguese, which he believed made it appear “exotic”.
A self-taught artist, he proudly claimed a “training without masters,” which fueled his originality.
Sadly, his promising career was cut short by tuberculosis, and he passed away in Braga in 1923.
His legacy endures through his bold artistic expression and unique vision. πΌβ¨
