In this work, Paulo Violante creates an intense, highly expressive composition in which faces, gazes and fragments of figures overlap and seem to compete for the same pictorial space.
Line plays a central role: firm, restless and almost graphic, it defines the forms without containing them. Bright yellows, reds, greens, blues and earthy tones appear in successive layers, creating a vibrant surface shaped by contrast and a strong sense of texture.
There is something deliberately fragmented about the composition. The faces do not reveal themselves all at once — they emerge gradually through overlaps, distortions and unexpected encounters. This multiplicity gives the work an almost psychological dimension, as though different emotions and identities were coexisting within the same space.
The mixed-media technique reinforces this freedom of expression, bringing drawing, painting and an almost collage-like quality together. The result is a work with a distinctive character, at once spontaneous and carefully constructed, where every detail seems to invite another reading.
The classical frame adds another compelling contrast, setting the contemporary energy of the composition against a more traditional setting and further enhancing the individuality of the piece.
