Biography & Artistic Influence:
Originally from Galicia, Varela Aldemira developed his artistic career in Portugal, studying at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts under the guidance of Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro.
After becoming a naturalized Portuguese citizen, he received a scholarship from the Instituto de Alta Cultura (1933) to travel and study in Spain, France, and Italy.
Aldemira followed the Naturalist movement, while also incorporating elements of Modernism, seeking a synthesis that remained unresolved in his artistic journey.
