Here is a work that moves me deeply β an Our Lady with the Child, from the 18th century, carved in wood, 79 cm high. A piece that is not just sculpture: it is spirituality that has crossed centuries, touching all who contemplate it.
The artist who created it was clearly a master: just look at the serenity of the Motherβs face, the sweetness of the Child, and the harmony of the proportions. But it is in the garments that his genius truly shines β a richly decorated mantle, with golden floral patterns over a deep blue background, glowing as if embroidered with threads of gold. Every fold of the tunic was sculpted and painted with almost liturgical devotion, evoking the preciousness of antique fabrics once reserved for royalty or divine iconography itself.
The patina of time has added a beauty that only centuries can bestow. The intense reds, the deep blue of the mantle, the radiant golden flowers, and the tender skin of the Child come together in a harmony of colours that conveys warmth, devotion, and nobility.
This is an image that speaks of faith, but also of art β a sublime fusion of spirituality and masterful craftsmanship. An Our Lady who, after more than two hundred years, continues to open her arms and her heart to all who let themselves be touched by her presence. β¨
