Literature:
Of German origin, Alfredo Keil studied in Germany from 1868 to 1870, in the studios of August Kreiling and W. Von Kaulbach, and in Lisbon with Joaquim Prieto and M.Βͺ Lupi.
His painting style balanced Sentimentalism and Naturalism, with a late Romantic approach. As a portraitist, landscape artist, and genre painter, he brought a modern treatment to nature, skillfully using light and shadow contrasts to create a harmonious deformation of landscapes.
πΏ A master of both art and music, Alfredo Keil also composed the patriotic march “A Portuguesa”, which became Portugalβs National Anthem following the establishment of the Republic. π΅πΉπΌ
