ARTEMIDE CASTORE — LIGHT, PURITY & ITALIAN DESIGN
Some design pieces manage to be understated and, at the same time, completely unforgettable. These three Castore pendant lights by Artemide, designed by Huub Ubbens and Michele De Lucchi, are exactly that: light, elegant, sculptural and beautifully simple.
What I particularly love is the way the opaline glass globe seems to flow seamlessly into the slender neck of the lamp, creating a continuous transition between structure and light. Once illuminated, they become more than functional objects — they turn into glowing spheres, casting a soft, enveloping and highly sophisticated light.
Displayed together, at three different heights, they gain even greater presence. The composition creates rhythm, depth and movement, almost like a suspended light installation. I especially love the contrast between this clean Italian design and an interior filled with antiques, paintings and old woods. It is precisely in that dialogue that these pieces reveal their full modernity.
Castore is one of those designs that moves effortlessly beyond trends. Minimal without feeling cold, functional without losing poetry, and striking enough to transform a dining room, entrance hall or any space with generous ceiling height.
