Some pieces feel as if they were lifted from an altarpiece β still carrying the energy of the sacred on their surface. These 18th-century columns, tall and sculptural, are pure Baroque: volume, movement, and drama, as if the wood had learned how to dance.
The Solomonic twist, the fluting, and the carved details create a rich reading from afar and a delicious one up close. The polychromy in deep reds, blacks, and time-worn blues, with traces of gilding, gives them a powerful patina β that rare balance between grandeur and humanity, between ceremony and lived life.
They are columns with architectural presence and the soul of an object: perfect for elevating a space, framing an entrance, flanking an image, or simply becoming the βcentre of gravityβ of a room. Time hasnβt weakened them β it has given them character, texture, and truth.
MAKER / WORKSHOP: Iberian workshops (with a strong Portuguese resonance) of 18th-century Baroque carving, where master carvers, gilders, and polychromy specialists worked together to create structure and visual theatre for churches and chapels. The helical design, vegetal ornament, and layered colour strata reveal a fully Baroque language β made to impress, to uplift, and to guide the eye.
